Kings Norton - January 2019 newsletter

It’s January and Shooting Stars Kings Norton is finally open! We officially opened our doors on Wednesday 2nd January after months of building work, renovations, planning, recruitment and setting up.

We are sure you will agree when we say the Nursery is looking lovely! The children have access to so many wonderful brand new resources and equipment, it’s like Christmas has come all over again. We are excited for the children to explore and make themselves comfortable in their base rooms. The garden landscaping has been completed and we await the arrival of the outdoor equipment and resources.

It has been lovely to welcome so many parents and children to settle so far and we are so pleased that you have chosen Shooting Stars for your children. So far the children have enjoyed their time settling into their rooms, exploring their new environment and making new friends.

We will inform you who your child’s key person is – your child’s key person is your child’s lead carer at Shooting Stars and is your first port of call. However please do feel free to speak to any of your child’s base room team or management at any time.

Your child’s key person will be using an online tool called eyLog to complete observations and assessments to track your child’s progress. This is more efficient than using a paper-based learning journey, reducing the time spent on paperwork for our staff, and is also more environmentally friendly as less paper and ink is used for printing out observations.

We would like to introduce you to our current staff team:

Food and Menus
All our meals are cooked fresh on site by our nursery cook Angelina. The menu rotates every 4 weeks to ensure plenty of variety, and we also have spring/summer and autumn/winter menus to incorporate seasonal changes. The menus are displayed in reception, or you can request a copy by email should you like one.
Please ensure that you inform us of any dietary requirements or allergies so that we can ensure your child’s file is kept up to date.

Labelling of items
Could parents please ensure any clothes, comforters, water bottles and belongings are labelled clearly with your child’s name. This will really help our staff team to minimise mix ups between children within their room.

Free week promotion
Do you have a friend or colleague who is looking for a nursery for their child? Our Recommend a Friend promotion is an ongoing referral scheme for all Shooting Stars families which gives a free week of childcare for both you and your friend. Referrals are unlimited and can also be used for referring to other Shooting Stars settings. The free week is based on each child’s regular booking pattern and applied to both accounts after your friend has been attending nursery for 3 months. Please ask at reception if you have any questions.

Tax Free Childcare
Have you heard about Tax Free Childcare? It’s the government’s new initiative which is replacing the previous Childcare vouchers scheme. For every £8 of childcare fees that you pay, the government pay £2 towards your fees. This could save you 20% on your childcare fees.
You can usually get Tax-Free Childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
- in work - or getting parental leave, sick leave or annual leave
- each earning at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week - this is £125.28 if you’re 25 or over (and have a household income of under £100,000 per annum).
For more information and to apply please visit this website (please let us know if you will be starting to pay by Tax Free Childcare):
