Wolverhampton - February 2019 newsletter

It is hard to believe we are in February already! We are looking forward to some exciting themed events coming up this month (Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day) and also World Book Day is fast approaching in March. It goes without saying that the weather is certainly very wintery, so please ensure your child comes to nursery with appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear so that they can still enjoy the garden. We would like to warmly welcome all the new families that are joining us in February. We are delighted to welcome you all to Shooting Stars.

Room updates
Baby Room
In the baby room, the children have enjoyed playing in the tuff spot tray with the water and cars. They have also been absolutely engrossed in the spider web basket that the team made from a laundry basket and different ribbons!

Toddler Room
This month, the Toddler children have been introduced to a space themed self-registration board, supporting name recognition and independence. The children find their own name and picture on their rocket and take it into the room to place on the space board. The team have been encouraging the children to look at all the different letters of their name.
In February, the Toddler children will be looking at the festival of Chinese New Year and will also be celebrating St Valentine’s Day with a special Stay and Play event for families to join. More information will be coming out in an e-mail shortly!

Pre School
Preschool have been having lots of fun learning about ‘Ourselves’ and ‘Our five senses’. We have been looking at the colours of our eyes and what we use them for. The children noticed that they have different coloured eyes and then used their sorting skills to put eye colours into groups. Preschool have also been interested in rainbows and colour mixing as well as exploring the magnets. Following on from this, the children have been joining in with a variety of science experiments.

Pre Toddlers
In the Pretoddler Room, the children have shown an interest in dinosaurs. The children have been on a dinosaur hunt in the garden and used the dinosaurs in the paint to make different marks. The children have also been exploring the colours blue and white, the colours of the Scottish flag, in celebration of Burns Night.

Road closure
Please be aware that Compton Road West will be closed from Saturday 16th February until Sunday 24th February for essential gas mains replacement work. This may cause some inconvenience to your journey to and from nursery so please consider allowing extra time.

Polite request
Could we please remind everyone that nursery closes at 6pm each evening. For the team to effectively give feedback about your child’s day, could you please ensure that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the end of your session time. Thank you.

EY Log
As you are all aware, EYLog will be going live to all of our families from Monday 4th February. For you to access your child’s online learning journey with us, please ensure you have clicked on the activation link in the e-mail that was sent out to you at the end of January.
When you click on the link, you will be directed to the EYLog website where you can set up a secure password to gain access. If you have any problems, please let us know. We are all very excited about the benefits of EYLog and we look forward to hearing your views.

Coat peg changes
We have changed some of the children’s coat pegs around to reflect attendance so that children who attend on the same day don’t share a coat peg. With this in mind, could we ask that parents take all their child’s belongings home at the end of their session so that it is left empty for the next day. Hopefully this will help to ease coat peg congestion. Many thanks.

Dates for your Diary
Tuesday 5th February - Chinese New Year – Year of the Pig.

Thursday 14th February - Valentine’s Day Tea - Anyone attending nursery on this day is welcome to come to nursery dressed in red and/ or pink.

Thursday 7th March 2019 - World Book Day – Come to nursery dressed as your favourite book character for a day celebrating the wonderful world of books.

What is Chinese New Year?

In Chinese tradition, each year is named after one of twelve animals, which feature in the Chinese zodiac: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.
