Bromsgrove - February 2019 newsletter

It is hard to believe we are in February already! The children and staff have thoroughly enjoyed exploring Chinese New Year this week. We are looking forward to celebrating our loved ones and friendships on Valentine’s Day and also World Book Day is fast approaching in March. It goes without saying that the weather is certainly very wintery, so please ensure your child comes to nursery with appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear so that they can still enjoy the garden.

Staff Update
Cara has recently joined our team as a level 3 qualified Nursery Nurse and has been spending most of her time in Toddler Room. We also have a level 2 Nursery Assistant Laura starting with us at the end of February and she will also be supporting in Toddler Room. Nisha from Toddler Room has been unwell for a while but is on the mend and is now back at nursery working 3 days each week. Bridget will be moving from Toddler Room to Pre-Toddler Room in the next few weeks. If Bridget is your child’s key person you will shortly be informed of who your child’s new key person will be. We will work to ensure that this transition of key person is seamless for your child, however if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.
The numbers of families joining us are growing and therefore we are recruiting for more Nursery Nurses. We will keep you updated as to when we have recruited a suitable candidate to join our team.

Going the Extra Mile Awards (GEM award)
This month we are introducing a new monthly recognition award for staff; the GEM awards. If you feel that one of our staff team stands out, please see Abbie for a nomination star or you can email your comments to us at bromsgrove@myshootingstars.com.

EY Log
We are excited to be able to share that eyLog is now LIVE for parents!
Please look out for an email that will contain an activation link which will take you directly to the eyLog website where you will be able to set up a secure password to gain access. Please remember to check your junk folder just in case.

If you would like to see a tablet, or view your child’s learning journey, please speak with your child’s keyperson and this can be arranged. If you have any trouble logging in or using eylog please let us know and we will be happy to help.

Don’t forget that you can leave a review for us on www.daynurseries.co.uk. This is like ‘Tripadvisor’ for childcare and is used by many families when deciding which nursery is right for their child. Genuine reviews from parents can be very helpful to prospective families and it also helps us to build the nursery’s reputation and reach new families. You can submit a review online by searching ‘Shooting Stars Nurseries at Bromsgrove’ at www.daynurseries.co.uk, or you can pick up a review card from reception.

Winter weather
With the weather now being very chilly can you please ensure your child has their own named wellies, along with a suitable warm coat, hat and gloves. We will still continue to use the outdoors throughout the day. We feel it is important for children to experience the garden in a range of different weather conditions and by dressing appropriately, it will ensure that this is an enjoyable experience. Children must always be well enough to take part in outdoor activities if that are at nursery. It is a myth that cold weather causes a cold; germs cause a cold. Colds are more common when the weather is cold as this is the temperature that this type of germ prefers to grow in. Fresh air has numerous benefits for the children so if we wrap up warm, we can still enjoy the outdoors.

Reusable resources
We are looking to enhance our role play area in Preschool. We would be grateful for any donations of any unwanted child/adult size items such as jackets, bags, bangles, socks, gloves or scarves to add to the area.

Recyclable resources
We have received some great recyclable resources but please keep them coming in.
We encourage the children to use their imagination and to support this, we like to provide open ended activities. For this to be achieved we need resources that can be “turned into anything”.
If you have any used recyclable resources such as cereal boxes, squeezy bottles or washable food containers we would be very grateful of the donation.

Please can we request that Fruit shoots and Capri-sun drinks are not brought into nursery please as they contain lots of added sugar.

Extra-curricular sessions
For the past 2 terms we have been enjoying Leapfrog Sports sessions on a Tuesday morning, however last term we trialled a new session called “Stelissa”. The children really enjoyed the Stelissa session which is a physical activity session to a theme, for example; The Jungle. The children use their bodies to move to actions associated with the theme and the instructors bring props like puppets and lights with them. Our new Stelissa session will be held on a Thursday morning at 9.30 am for all Pre-School children and any Toddlers that understand and enjoy the concept. We are sure that the children will enjoy the change from Leapfrog to Stelissa which will start on Thursday 7th February 2019.

Final Note
If there is anything we can do to improve your family’s experience, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
Many thanks from Abbie, Helen and the Shooting Stars Bromsgrove team.
