Gloucester - March 2019 newsletter

We have a busy month coming up at nursery in March and with spring just around the corner, we are looking forward to seeing some better weather coming our way with the change of season.

Staff Update
From the beginning of March we will be working with the local college Glos Col with the students who are undertaking their CACHE Early Years level 3 qualification. We currently have Jade with us as our first student who is gaining experience within our baby unit.

Shooting Star of the Month
This month our Shooting Star goes to April. She was nominated for all her hard work she continues to do with her key children, extending their learning opportunities through her daily planning.
If you feel that one of our staff team stands out, please see Lindsay for a nomination star or you can email your comments to us at gloucester@myshootingstars.com.

Room themes for March
All the room themes within the nursery have been developed carefully and are designed to provide fun, engaging and stimulating activities that help to promote the children’s skills in a variety of areas: personal, social and emotional; communication and language; physical; mathematical; literacy skills; expressive arts and design and knowledge and understanding of the world.

Baby 1 - This month, Baby 1 are focusing on ‘Every child an artist’. We will be getting creative with a variety of materials as well as using a selection of different music to listen to whilst we create. At nursery the focus is on the process, not the product – every piece created is a masterpiece as it represents the freedom, joy and creativity your child felt when creating that piece of art.

Baby 2 - This month, Baby 2 will be focusing on extending our speech as the babies really love to talk, babble, chatter and explore the different sounds they can hear and make at every opportunity! We will be using a variety of sensory activities and linking this in with world book day by sharing our favourite stories.

Pre-Toddlers - This month, Pre-Toddlers will be focusing on Nursery Rhymes, through the use of musical instruments and natural materials and props. This will help to support the children to develop their confidence, listening skills and communication and language.

Toddler 1 - This month, Toddler 1 will extending their understanding of nature, seasons and change by focusing on the theme of spring. We plan to look at new beginnings which will include the planting of seedlings and lots of exploring, planting and growing in the garden area.

Toddler 2 - This month, Toddler 2 will be continuing with their animal theme extending this to animals that live under the sea. Their story of the month will be ‘Barry the fish with fingers’ and we also plan to introduce some new stories as part of our world book day celebrations.

Pre School – This month, Preschool will be continuing with sharing their feelings and we will be supporting them with understanding and managing their feelings and behaviour.

EY Log
We have received some lovely feedback from you all with how you have been receiving your child’s observations, and have really enjoyed sharing your home observations and news with the children. The staff team are finding the new technology much more efficient to use which will really benefit the children.

EYNF/Tax Free childcare
Don’t forget to renew codes before the 31st March 2019!

Spring weather
With the weather now a little warmer we need to be aware of the need for sun protection as we continue to use our outside areas as part of our nursery routine. It would be helpful for us if you could start to provide a suitable sun cream/lotion. Between the months of April and September, where the UV rating is 3 and above, sun cream must be applied for children to access the outdoors. Shooting Stars Nurseries will only deem sunscreen as suitable, if the label shows the following: The letters “UVA” in a circle logo and at least four-star UVA protection. A SPF of at least 30 to protect against UVB. Suitable for the age of the child.

Recyclable resources
We have received some great recyclable resources so far so please keep them coming in. We encourage the children to use their imagination and to support this, we like to provide open ended activities. For this to be achieved we need resources that can be “turned into anything”. If you have any used recyclable resources such as cereal boxes, squeezy bottles or washable food containers we would be very grateful of the donation.

Question of the Month - Are you happy to continue with using our current nursery photographer?
Thank you to all who contributed, we really do welcome parent feedback. We received a mixture of responses. However we have received confirmation from Aston and Ainsworth ‘Rosie in the garden’ that they will be ceasing their business. We will therefore be looking at different photographers and we will keep you updated.
All newsletters are filled with information for the upcoming month. If you feel that more can be added, please speak to Lindsay or Sarah. If you have any ideas or suggestions you would like to share, please let us know.
