Bromsgrove - March 2019 newsletter

Welcome to our March Newsletter! We have a busy month coming up at nursery in March and with spring just around the corner, we are looking forward to seeing some better weather coming our way with the change of season.

Staff Update
We welcome you all to congratulate Hope on completing her level 2 qualification. Hope will soon be starting her level 3 qualification with us. Keep up the good work Hope!
We would like to welcome Laura to the team. Laura joined our team very recently and will be based in the Toddler Room. Laura has previously worked in childcare settings and has lots of experience to bring to her role.

Open Morning
On Saturday 2nd March we were delighted to welcome lots of prospective families to Shooting Stars to look around. We had lots of great feedback and look forward to our new starters joining us for their settling in sessions really soon!

G.E.M Award Winner February 2019 – Going the Extra Mile
Please join us in congratulating Zaira our Pre-school Leader on winning February’s G.E.M award. She has been nominated by parents for her dedication to the children.
Don’t forget you can now nominate for our March G.E.M winner. There are nomination slips in reception or you can email your nomination to bromsgrove@myshootingstars.com

Daynurseries Top 20 Nursery Group Awards 2019
Last year, Shooting Stars Nurseries was named as a TOP 20 nursery group in the Daynurseries.co.uk annual awards. The closing date for parent reviews to be included in the 2019 awards is 30th April 2019 so if you haven’t already left a review, please do consider submitting one – it only takes a minute.
Our staff teams would be absolutely delighted to receive such prestigious recognition again this year, so please leave a review for us before the deadline on 30th April! Pick up a review card or submit a review on the tablet in reception.

EY Log
Thank you to all the parents who have given us feedback on EY Log. It has all been very positive many thanks. The staff team are also finding it much more efficient which will benefit the children.
Did you know that you can upload photos to EY Log? When you upload these, your child’s keyworker can see these and it’s always a great talking point with the children. We can also see things that we might not necessarily observe during their time at nursery.
Thank you to all the parents that have uploaded photos already. Don’t forget to complete the ‘My World’ section as well when you get a few minutes.

Valentine’s day Facebook competition winner
Congratulations to our very own winner Lisa! Out of all the Shooting Stars nurseries, Lisa was lucky enough to win a day’s free childcare for her child.
Thank you for all the lovely comments on the post from our wonderful parents. It really is appreciated to know how much the children enjoy their time with us at nursery.

Sign a Story
Pre-School had their first sign a story session last week with Margaret and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Margaret is with us for the next 5 weeks. During the session, she will be reading stories to the children as well as using sign-a-long. She will be teaching the children sign-a-long while using a wide range of books, story sacks and props.
If your child doesn't normally attend on a Friday morning but you would like them to take part, you can book them in for an extra session if you would like them to participate.

New Garden resources
We have had lots of new open-ended resources for the garden here at Shooting Stars Bromsgrove. The children from all rooms have enjoyed exploring them in a variety of ways. It is interesting to see how children of different ages explore the resources in different ways, but also how children of a similar age can take their play themes along completely different journeys.

Open-ended play materials enable children to make choices, express their creativity and support their independence. Open-ended materials by definition do not have a pre-determined use. So, we had lots of fun using our imaginations and using all the new resources in lots of different ways.

Dates for your diary
We have got some exciting events coming up at nursery over the next few months.
Thursday March 7th – World Book Day. Come to nursery dressed as your favourite character from a book.
Friday March 15th – Red Nose Day. Come in your party clothes for a small donation to charity.
Wednesday March 27th – Mother’s Day Stay and Play between 2.30-4.00pm (More details to follow)
Tuesday April 16th – Easter Bonnet Parade (More details to follow)

Local Businesses we use
Sheelagh would like to share with you all where all our lovely fresh produce comes from.
For our delicious fresh meat, we now use a local butcher in Stoke Prior called ‘The Butcheress’ and our yummy fruit and vegetables come from the Bromsgrove Fruit and Veg shop, which is located by Iceland in Bromsgrove High Street.

Funding term dates
This term ends on Friday 5th April and the funding starts again on Monday 29th April.
If you would like to book in for any extra sessions over this period, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Please note that the use of mobile phones is not permitted on the premises due to safeguarding. Thank you.

Final Note
If there is anything we can do to improve your family’s experience, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
Many thanks from Abbie, Helen and the Shooting Stars Bromsgrove team.
