September 17 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone that came along to our Summer Fete and for all the tombola prizes that you donated, it was much appreciated. We were extremely lucky with the weather, it was a glorious sunny day so we managed to have everything outside in the garden. Some of the children were a little confused at first, to see their garden had been taken over by lots of different stalls, but it wasn’t long before they joined in the fun. The children enjoyed the bouncy castle and joining in the various games, face painting was popular and of course Aimee’s delicious cakes. The highlight of the day had to be the theatre show of “Little Red Riding Hood” with the staff taking on various roles. I think the parents were just as entertained as the children. We really do enjoy traditional Fairy tales. The children love getting involved in acting them out with the staff and reciting the popular lines from the story. I’m sure there will be another theatre show popping up soon.

Well done to the winners of the 'guess the name of the Teddy Bear' and 'guess the staff baby photos' competitions. Some of them were quite tough as well.

September see’s all our older children leaving us to go to big school, some of these children have been with us since the Nursery first opened. We are looking forward to some of their siblings joining us over the coming months, and we wish all of our leavers the best of luck at their new schools.

OFSTED report
We are pleased to inform you that we have received a good grading in our recent OFSTED inspection in August. Following on from the inspection and the suggested actions, we have now introduced a baseline assessment for new parents to complete when they first join the nursery, this is an extension of our existing ‘Early Assessment’. We are also working towards providing smaller group sizes at story times to ensure that all children are able to fully engage in what’s happening. If you would like a copy of the report they are available on the reception desk for you. I would like to say a very big thank you to the staff team for their hard work and commitment which was evident throughout the inspection

Shooting Star of the Month
This month our Shooting Star is Tracy from Pre-School 2. She has been nominated by several parents for her relationships with the children, hard work keeping the room running, activities and handovers. Well done Tracy! If you feel that one of our staff team stands out, or has gone the extra mile and you wish to nominate them, please see Michelle or Jenny for a nomination slip.

Staff News
During September, we welcome Lucy into the Toddler Room team. Lucy is a qualified and experienced Nursery Nurse, we look forward to all the new ideas she brings along with her. We also welcome Jessica on board, she will be undertaking her childcare apprenticeship with us assisted by Babcock, our training provider.

Children’s Reptiles group
We have held our reptile’s committee meeting with a different group of children from Pre-School 2 this month. We talked about getting the children involved in checking the garden with staff in the morning. We have taken a picture checklist for the children to use so they can identify jobs that need doing such as taking the sand cover off, making sure we have a bin liner for rubbish and checking the padlock is on the gate. The children are very keen to be helpers and get involved in this important task. We feel will be a good foundation for their learning and development.

Christmas events were high on the agenda at the meeting. The children told us all the exciting things they would like for the Christmas party, the most important part being Santa’s visit and balloons. They wanted to play games and have music to dance to (some of the songs from Frozen, the party food ideas were flowing with the unusual request of beans on toast! They children told us they liked growing vegetables in the garden and would like to grow more when the sun is shining.

We talked about fire drills and one of the children would like to help Michelle with setting off the alarm the next time we do a drill – that could be interesting! The easiest request of the day was for some different toys, when I asked what they would like, they asked for some new tractors and jungle animals, which is a very easy fix. We look forward to holding the next meeting in October.

Parent Involvement in the Nursery
We are keen to start up a new group for parents to come along to, so that you can share your ideas and get involved in the development of the Nursery. We know you are all very busy so we are going to send out a short survey to find the best way to start up this group up so that it’s easier for you to get involved. We welcome your feedback and will endeavour to find a more suitable time for this to take place.

Thank you to all the parents that have put suggestions in our comments box on the reception desk. So far, we have had lots of nominations for Shooting Stars of the month for the staff in Pre-School 1 and 2.

Re-introduction of Parent Feedback Surveys from September
Parents - your feedback is very important to us here at Shooting Stars and your opinion really matters. We have decided that it would be good to reintroduce the Parent Feedback Surveys. Each month we will chose a selection of parents and send them a link to Survey Monkey. We would appreciate it very much if you could take 5 Minutes to give us your thoughts, opinions and feedback on your child's experience at Shooting Stars. We understand all parents are busy so if you receive a survey to complete, you will not receive another survey request for one year. We do, of course, welcome feedback and comments from parents at any time, so please do continue to speak to a member of the team or manager.

Your feedback will provide us with valuable information on your views of your children's nursery care and education, and will allow us to both make improvements where necessary, and provide praise to the staff where appropriate. Please look out for the Survey Monkey link coming soon. Thank you.

Kind regards from
Michelle, Jenny and the Shooting Stars Hinckley team.
