Gloucester - September 2017 Newsletter

Staffing Updates
We are pleased to announce that Elizabeth has been successfully appointed as our new apprentice. Elizabeth will be based in Toddler 1 to start her apprenticeship and will then move throughout the nursery to gain experience within each age group. We wish her well in her new journey at Shooting Stars and give her a warm welcome

Room Themes
All of the rooms within the nursery have been developed carefully and are designed to provide fun, engaging and stimulating activities that help to promote the children’s skills in a variety of areas:
- personal, social and emotional
- communication and language
- physical
- mathematical
- literacy skills
- expressive arts and design and
- knowledge and understanding of the world.

If you would like to know more about the type of activities your child will be enjoying this month, please ask the team in your child’s room and we will be happy to share our plans with you.

Christmas Cards
Each year the children design their own Christmas cards. These designs are completed at nursery and are then sent home for you to purchase if you wish. The staff will be giving these out for you to return by September 29th

Recipe of the Month
We often receive lots of positive feedback regarding the meals that are served at nursery, with parents requesting copies of the recipes to try at home. We are so delighted with this feedback and it is a pleasure to see the children enjoying these so much. For this reason we have decided to launch a ‘Recipe of the Month’ to share some of the wonderful meals that Debbie cooks each day. Each month, we will share a recipe with you. Why not try this at home and tell us what you think! This month’s Recipe of the Month is Haddock Pie. You can find a copy of this receipe at the end of this month’s newsletter

We would be very grateful if you could review us on www.daynurseries.co.uk This is a popular source for parents looking to research nurseries in their local area and we are keen to demonstrate just how fantastic Shooting Stars Nurseries is and the opportunities we could offer their child. Your review is much appreciated.

Introduction of Parent feedback surveys from September
Parents, your feedback is very important to us here at Shooting Stars and your opinion really matters. As a Company we have previously issued Parent Feedback Surveys. We have decided that it would be good to reintroduce these at nursery. Each month we will chose a selection of parents and send them a link to Survey Monkey. We would appreciate it very much if you could take 5 minutes to give us your thoughts, opinions and feedback on your child's experience at Shooting Stars. We understand all parents are busy so if you receive a survey to complete, you will not receive another survey request for one year. We do, of course, welcome feedback and comments from parents at any time, so please do continue to speak to a member of the team or manager.

Your feedback will provide us with valuable information on your views of your children's nursery care and education, and will allow us to both make improvements where necessary, and provide praise to the staff where appropriate. Please look out for the Survey Monkey link coming soon. Thank you.

Please do not be offended if staff members do not accept your friend requests. It is company policy for staff not to be friends with parents on Facebook.

Sun Safety
Thank you to all parents who have provided sun cream and sun hats for the children’s time at nursery.
There are times that it does not feel warm and we have been asked why we still apply sun cream to the children. Throughout the day, we check the UV rating for the local area and for the time of day. If at any point the UV level is greater than a 3 we must apply sun cream and wear hats whilst outdoors. We adopt this practice within our policy as this is the advice given by the NHS and Sun Safe Nurseries.
We do display the weather information daily within the reception area. If you would like a copy of our UV chart or our Sun Safety Policy, please speak with your child’s key person and they will provide you with a copy.

Spare Clothes
Thank you for the donations of spare clothes. We will always welcome clothes that are outgrown/no longer required, so if you have any items that you wish to donate, we would gratefully receive them for our stock of spares.

Parent Development Group
You can find information packs about our Parent Development Group in the reception area. We also display the minutes from the previous meeting on the parents notice board, along with the names of the parent representatives for each group. Our current Parent Representatives have very kindly shared their email addresses for use parents unable to attend the meetings, allowing you to forward any ideas you would like discussed. We would really love for more parents to join the group. If you might be interested, please speak with your child’s Room Leader who will provide you with further information.

The next Parent Development Group will be held on Tuesday 26th September 2017 from 6.15 to 7.15pm.
