Diwali 'Stay & Play' - 19th October 2017

Diwali 'Stay & Play' - 19th October 2017

All the toddlers had a fantastic time celebrating Diwali during our Stay and Play session on Thursday 19th October. It was so much fun to explore traditional Indian clothing and bracelets and to wear different coloured Bindi’s. (Understanding the World, Shows an interest in different occupations and ways of life, 30-50 months).

All the toddler room staff dressed up in different traditional coloured outfits and the children loved joining in with trying on some clothes and dresses. (Physical, Helps with clothing, 22-36 months)

We all enjoyed creating and decorating some lovely Rangoli and Henna patterns using lots of variety coloured paints and coloured rice. It was fun to make different patterns and mix lots of different colours. (Maths, Notices simple shapes and patterns in pictures, 22-36 months).

We also loved getting very creative and messy with clay to make some Diva’s for our tea light candles. These turned out amazing as we all used lots of different coloured paint and glitter to decorate them once we made the Diva by making a hole in the middle of the clay for the candle. (Expressive Arts and Design, Experiments with blocks, colours and marks, 22-36 months).

The tasting session was very delicious. We explored and tried some Indian snacks and sweets such as Samoa’s, Barfi and Gulum Jamun. The textures were very interesting from soft and squishy to crispy and chewy. (Expressive Arts and Design, Beginning to be interested in and describe textures, 30-50 months). The sweets were especially yummy and very sweet, we really enjoyed them!

To complete our fun filled Diwali session we ended by dancing to some traditional music, singing some nursery rhymes and listening to the Rama and Sita story, one of the main Diwali Stories. (Expressive Arts and Design, Creates movement in response to music, 30-50 months).
