Stourbridge - November 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to our November Newsletter. Firstly we would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new families, we look forward to getting to know you all better throughout your time with us at Shooting Stars.

This winter the base rooms have many exciting and challenging winter themed outdoor activities planned for the children. We would like to remind parents to ensure your child has a labelled coat, wellington boots, winter hat and gloves. We do have all in one puddle suits available for children to wear here at nursery for when the weather is very wet or to play in our mud kitchen. If you have boots stored here at nursery please do just check that they are the correct size. Labelled attire helps us to ensure items go home with the correct child. Please see below for purchasing labels.

Early Years National Funding
From September 2017 the Early Years National Funding offers a further 15 hours funding to eligible 3 and 4 years olds. Information about this scheme including eligibility criteria can be found via the Childcare Choices website, at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. Applications for this funding must also be made via this website. Applications for your eligibility code for January should be made now! Applications made after the 31st December cannot be accepted for the spring term. We strongly advise that you apply before 30th November. Don’t miss out if you are eligible. We also want to remind parents who already have an eligibility code to reconfirm their eligibility for 30 hours every 3 months. Please do this now for the spring term if you have not done so already. Not all parents can get a code straight away – HMRC sometimes needs more information to check whether a parent is eligible. Further information about EYNF can be found in our policy available in reception.

New Apprentice
Chelsea joined Shooting Stars at the beginning of this month. Chelsea is based in our Preschool two room, she has begun her induction and is getting to know the children well. She has already become a valued member of the team. Chelsea will soon begin studying for her Level 2 childcare qualification with us here with the aim to becoming a full qualified nursery nurse in two years’ time.

We are also currently recruiting for Relief Nursery Nurses, to support our Nursery Nurses and Room leaders with their duties such as time out of the room to complete learning journeys, assessments on observations and training days along with covering staff annual leave. We will keep you informed with any new staff joining us in due course.

Room Updates
Baby Room
Recently we have been learning about animals from our visit from animal antics. We will continue to explore different animals by talking about the noises they make, what they look like and where they live using animal books and real life pictures. This will enable us to explore different textures through messy play and allowing us to explore what different animals might feel like or what there environments might look like. This works towards promoting new vocabulary and use of expressions. If you have any pet pictures or pictures from farm visits you would like to share please feel free to email them to nursery and we can print them for sharing with the children.

Pre-toddler Room
We would like to welcome our new families to our room and we hope you have found the settle sessions have gone smoothly. We are pleased with how well they have all settled in. This month we will be taking part in nursery rhyme week, we would love to share any special nursery rhymes you make sing at home to the children. We will be introducing some new rhymes to the children. Next week you will find copies of song we have been learning on our display board, please help yourself to a copy to sing at home.
Toddler Room

During the month of November we have lots of exciting events coming up. We will be helping to make our own poppy wreath which the children will be laying at a local memorial. The children have enjoyed talking about bonfire night and sharing stories at circle time and making our own rockets. Next week is nursery Rhyme week, each day we will focus on one favourite nursery rhyme and introduce a new rhyme that might not have heard before using props and acing out the rhymes to aid there understanding and develop imaginative play.

Preschool One
This month we are making a Remembrance Day wreath using our hand prints. We will take a walk to our local memorial to lay the wreath. We have talked about what Remembrance Day means to us and why we celebrate it. The children have spoken about they have seen poppy’s and putting money into a pot.

Preschool Two
We have really enjoyed taking part in our kindness challenge since September and we are now come to the last part of the challenge where we will focus on showing kindness to our community. We have begun to talk about the people who help us in the community such as the fire fighters we meet last week along with discussions about police officers and other emergency services. We will be talking about what we can do to help those in our community such as keeping our local environment litter free and donating to charities
